Program Requirements

Session Attendance

Attendance of all sessions is mandatory. Participants are expected to be on time to all sessions, including after breaks, and are expected to communicate with the lead teacher(s) if they are arriving late. If circumstances arise that participants must miss class, participants are expected to communicate which classes or portion of the training they will be missing and must make up any missed hours. If participants do not make up missed hours and/or turn in assignments, they will not graduate the program or receive a certificate.

Weekly Class Attendance

Participants are required to attend a minimum of 20 classes with the lead teacher(s). These make up part of your hours and participants who do not complete attendance requirements will not graduate the program or receive a certificate until they do.

Class Observations

Participants are required to observe a minimum of 12 classes and write a brief reflection on observations to be submitted. Your reflection should include what you observed in terms of sequencing, pace, environment, cueing (verbal, visual, physical), class management, and etiquette. Please ask the hosting studio in advance if it is okay to observe a particular class rather than just showing up.

Evaluation & Assessment

This training teaches Hatha Yoga including but not limited to the limbs of asana (physical practice), meditation, and pranayama (breathing techniques). You will be required to demonstrate competency in teaching asana, simple meditation, ujjayi pranayama and basic yoga theory and philosophy. There will be ongoing opportunities during class time to demonstrate these skills. There will be abundant physical practice of various standing, seated, and reclined postures as well as study and mindfulness practices.. Your final project will include teaching a 30-minute class to the group or provide a video recording of you teaching a 30-minute class. You are encouraged to practice teaching all of these (not just asana) often with others from the group, friends, family, or anybody else you might enlist and you are encouraged to ask questions of your teachers and mentors along the way.

Yoga Etiquette

Yoga is about becoming more conscious and aware in all aspects of life. This means being considerate and mindful of how your actions affect others. To that end, you are expected to:

  • Be on time.
  • Be prepared. Come with your yoga mat and any other materials you are asked to bring.
  • Pay attention. Take notes if that’s valuable to you.
  • Avoid interrupting. Raise your hand to ask questions.
  • Be attentive and respectful to your teacher. Avoid texting, emailing, and internet use during sessions.
  • Be respectful of others’ space and belongings. Avoid walking on classmates’ mats unless you are partnered for something and you have permission from the owner of that mat.
  • Practice good hygiene and body care, so as not to subject others to body odor.
  • Avoid strong perfumes and colognes; many people are sensitive to these chemicals and may result in headaches, nausea, etc.

Feedback Opportunities

  • Everyone will be required to offer and hear feedback from fellow trainees and the lead teacher(s).
  • Participants are welcome to offer feedback, comments, questions privately in person or through email.
  • A box where anonymous feedback can be left will also be available.

Application

Please scan or photograph your completed application and email it to info@mindfulturtle.com or bring a copy to the studio to give to Jackie.
